Concept

The heat source whether it be a boiler (1) or a heat pump, heats water and silently pumps it around the heating circuit. Either radiators (2) and maybe towel rails (3) or an underfloor (4) circuit radiates and convects warmth into the living spaces. A 7 day programmable room thermostat (5) fully automates the system according to your individual preferences.

In some systems it is possible to load share the heat source and connect it to a hot water cylinder (6) for the production of domestic hot water. Third party solar panels (7) can also be integrated into the system to supplement domestic hot water production and reduce running costs.

Home Heating Options

For many years Kiwi homes have been built without any consideration given towards meeting the World Health Organisation’s recommendation of 21°C for a healthy living environment. More often than not, cheap spot heating solutions like portable heaters, heatpumps and fireplaces overheat some rooms while leaving other areas of the house totally unheated.

A fireplace or a portable heater will super heat a specific area of the house while leaving other areas completely unheated.

An air to air heatpump will effectively heat or cool as many rooms as you have appliances, all generating noise and creating drafts. Its efficiency and capacity to heat unfortunately diminish as the outdoor temperature drops - the opposite of ideal.

A home ventilation system improves the air being circulated around your home by controlling the humidity. Some energy can be recaptured from the roof space but without supplementation is well under what is required to heat the living space below.

Ducted hot air systems can effectively heat all areas of the home, albeit using hot air which circulates dust, creates drafts and noise while using additional energy.

Underfloor and radiators create the most even heat while using the least amount of energy.

Underfloor Central Heating

Gentle invisible heat

A hydronic underfloor heating system pumps warm water silently through tubing encapsulated within your concrete slab. 50mm of insulation below the slab ensures the gentle radiation of all the heat into living areas.

  • Due to the large thermal mass of a concrete slab, it takes a long time for the slab to heat up or cool down. For this reason it is more practical to maintain the slab at a constant temperature day and night.
  • The floor of your house is separated into zones and controlled via digital room thermostats.
  • Underfloor is not practical to retro fit into an existing home but ideal for new homes with concrete floor construction.

Radiator Central Heating

Instant heat up or cool down

Our radiator heating systems circulate hot water silently through the radiator and heat is emitted into the surrounding area using only the natural convection of warm air. Radiators are widely accepted in Europe as the most efficient and cost effective form of central heating and we agree.

  • These systems are perfect for renovation projects, particularly homes with a crawl space for access.
  • Radiators are very responsive i.e. they have rapid heat up and cool down times making them ideal for quickly changing climates like spring time in Auckland.
  • Different areas of the home can be maintained at selected temperatures at different times of the day. This flexibility of control provides fast, effective heating when certain rooms are subject to very sunny or very shady periods of the day or when a room is unoccupied.

The Heat Source

LPG, Natural Gas, Diesel, Electricity, Wood, Pellets...

The heat source is the heart of your heating system. In most cases your choice of heating method and available fuel options at your location will influence this decision.

  • Boilers and heat pumps are very quiet but not silent and so can be easily situated away from living and sleeping areas such as in the garage, laundry or another covered external location.
  • All our appliances are designed and manufactured in Europe using leading edge technology and expertise. The drive in Europe to save natural resources means we benefit from these developments with the latest technical energy saving innovations.
  • Integrate the same efficient heat source as used by your Comfort+ system with your domestic water or pool heating. As the heating load is generally intermittent and spread over an extended period, energy can be diverted to other tasks based on priority.

Running Costs

  • An under floor system must maintain a steady indoor temperature regardless of occupancy. In order to achieve this expect a system to be operating from 6hours/day (Nth.Is) and 8hours/day (Sth.Is) during a typical winter month.
  • The quick response time of radiator systems allows the home owner to only have the system running while the house is occupied. Allow from 6hours/day occupancy during a typical winter month.
  • While the cost per kW is a definitive figure, the accumulated running costs depend on perceived comfort levels, quality of insulation, ambient temperature extremes, regional energy prices, building design and construction.
  • Without doubt every cent spent on insulation is money well spent, as it will be quickly recovered in reduced running costs of your Comfort+ system.

Heat Pumps

For comfort and good health an underfloor system should circulate warm water between 40ºC and 45ºC which happens to be the most efficient operating range of an air to water heat pump. This makes Clivet heat pumps a desirable option for underfloor heating particularly when reticulated natural gas is not available.

Automated Control

Having a thermostatically controlled central heating system means your home can be programmed to be warm according to your schedule.


Master and Slave Control Thermostats

Typically, we install a Salus digital master thermostat in the main living area away from direct sun or outside drafts. For radiator systems we measures the air temperature and for underfloor systems we measure the concrete temperature. This controller considers the time and temperature in the main living environment to decide whether or not the heating system should be active or sleeping.

Slave thermostats are then located in as many zones as independent control is desired.

In the case of underfloor systems, Salus slave thermostats are wired back to the panel and will switch zones on or off relative to its programmable set point.

In the case of radiators, Caleffi thermostatic radiator valves sense the room temperature and automatically isolate the radiator if the room reaches set point.

This design makes it is simple for the user to operate as there is only one thermostat to adjust if they want to start and stop the system while still retaining the ability to make individual room adjustments.

Future Proof Slab Packages

Future proof slab packages include only the under floor pipe, flow and return pipes, a manifold box and an installation estimate. This pack enables the completion of the system at a later date and even by a future home owner.

Under Floor Base Packages

Under floor base packages include either a heat pump, gas or diesel boiler with 500L fuel tank and side flue set, underfloor pipe, manifolds and a programmable room thermostat and an installation estimate.

Radiator Base Packages

Radiator base packages include either a gas or diesel boiler with 500L fuel tank, side flue set, steel panel radiators, thermostatic radiator valves, programmable room thermostat, pipe and fittings and an installation estimate.

  • Comfort+ solutions satisfy the mandatory requirements of the G12 Building Code.
  • Running costs will differ from system to system depending on relative comfort levels, quality of insulation, building design and construction, and ambient temperature extremes.
  • Trained independent third party installers are responsible for the sale, installation, commissioning, servicing and warranty support of all installations.
  • Third party products may be required to satisfy particular requirements or to ensure the best-fit solution. The WaterwareTech team will recommend these third party products when appropriate but cannot accept responsibility for specific warranty or performance issues.
  • Boiler performance and reliability may be affected by the quality of fuels available in various regions. Waterware does not accept responsibility or liability for issues relating to fuel quality.
